Restore Our Woodlands: Brown’s Woods Invasive Invaders
May 11, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Invasive species removal is at the forefront of restoration efforts in our Iowa woodlands. Spend your time on the frontline of this continuous battle as we remove non-native plant species in a forest habitat to protect the next generation of oaks and bring back native wildflowers and other valuable species while also improving nesting sites and food sources for wildlife. This restoration work also reduces soil erosion and sedimentation buildup in nearby waterways which protects watersheds and improves water quality.
Volunteers will learn how to properly identify invasive species, the techniques to remove them, and about the resulting benefits of this important conservation work in the woodlands of Brown’s Woods, Iowa’s largest urban forest in West Des Moines along the Raccoon River.
This event begins at 10 AM and end at 3 PM with a lunch break from 12 – 1PM. Come for the morning, afternoon, or both – participants are encouraged to come and go per their desired hours.
